Company name
CHUUGAI SHOKUHIN, CO., LTD. (qualified invoice-issuing enterprise registration no. T6010001106756)
A specialist trading company involved
in the wholesaling of seafood products.
We value the relationships of trust that we have built over many years, and we are now helping to develop a sustainable fisheries industry.
A message from our representative along with the history of the Nakahiko Group and a basic corporate profile can be found on this page.
Our corporate group set up a private shop for the wholesaling of seafood products in 1946. We were subsequently granted a license by the Tokyo metropolitan government and established Nakahiko Shoten within Tsukiji Market.
As our business performance improved over time, we changed from being a sole proprietor to a corporation known as NAKAHIKO CORPORATION We are now seeking to achieve growth for our corporate group, which consists of three different companies, including our company, the general seafood trading company CHUUGAI SHOKUHIN, CO., LTD., and the processed seafood product manufacturer CHUUGAI FOODS CORP.
After founder Katsuhiko Nakamura retired from a major trading company, he established a retail outlet for seafood products (salted and dried fish) in Kamijujo, Kita Ward.
The company opened Nakahiko Shoten after being granted a license from the governor of Tokyo. Nakahiko Shoten then increased the range of products along with the mainstay products of salted and dried fish. Business grew with an increase in both the number of customers and the volume of products handled.
In response to the expansion of business, the company changed from a sole proprietor to a corporation. NAKAHIKO CORPORATION, was consequently founded. The company then increased direct purchasing from local producers, trading companies, and processing manufacturers. Sales channels were also established through volume retailers, local wholesale dealers, and other outlets. The company achieved sales figures substantial enough to be a market leader as one of the biggest intermediate wholesalers in Tsukiji.
Sales increased as business connections spread throughout Japan. In order to respond to the increase in frozen seafood products and imported products, the wholesaling and trading divisions were separated into distinct departments.
CHUUGAI SHOKUHIN, CO., LTD., was established as a subsidiary. A new department was created to handle fish roe, salmon, trout, prawns, and other seafood products, and the company became one of Japan's top sellers of salted sujiko salmon roe.
The company developed significantly as a seafood trading company by purchasing products from overseas as well as developing original products.
Founder Katsuhiko Nakamura was recognized for his contributions to the industry, and in honor of his distinguished work to date, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun with Gold and Silver Rays to go along with the previously awarded Medal with a Dark Blue Ribbon and Medal with a Blue Ribbon.
The seafood processing division of CHUUGAI SHOKUHIN, CO., LTD., became independent and incorporated. The company became the first enterprise to acquire HACCP certification in Fukushima Prefecture in 1999 as part of its efforts to successfully brand itself as a safe, secure processing manufacturer.
